Trimming and shaping hedges

Hedges are stars of Costa Blanca gardens: they give privacy from neighbours, shelter from the wind and mark the plot boundaries. But they grow fast in spring and, without regular trimming, lose their shape, go hollow inside and end up invading the path or the next-door plot. We trim cypress, pittosporum, viburnum, laurel, jasmine and other common species with a professional hedge cutter, giving them a clean shape and holding the height you choose. For tall hedges we work with safe elevation equipment.

The ideal frequency depends on the species and the time of year: in spring and early summer, when growth is strong, one or two trims are advisable; in autumn, a tidy-up to leave it clean for winter. We advise on the calendar so the hedge stays dense and healthy without over-pruning.

Pruning shrubs and small trees

Garden shrubs and small trees (oleander, hibiscus, bougainvillea, citrus, young olive, fruit trees) need maintenance pruning to keep their shape, remove dead or diseased branches, open up the crown and encourage flowering or fruit. Each species has its moment: fruit trees are pruned in winter dormancy, bougainvillea after flowering, citrus in late winter. We respect those timings so as not to harm the plant or lose the crop.

Palm cleaning and pruning

Palms are emblematic of the area, but they build up dead fronds that look bad and can be a hazard if they fall. We clean the trunk, remove dead fronds and fruit, and shape the crown. On the Costa Blanca we pay special attention to the red palm weevil, a pest that bores into the trunk; if we spot symptoms, we warn you and coordinate the right treatment. For tall palms we work with safe equipment and, when needed, with staff trained for work at height.

Green-waste removal

Pruning generates a lot of branch volume and debris. Collection and removal to a recycling point or licensed handler are always included in the quote: we leave no piles or bags in the garden. For large prunings, with several trailer-loads of waste, we state the removal cost before starting so there are no surprises.

FAQ

What’s the best time to prune?

It depends on the species. Hedges are trimmed in spring-summer and tidied in autumn; fruit trees are pruned in winter dormancy; bougainvillea after flowering. We advise for each plant in the garden.

Do you prune tall hedges and palms?

Yes. We work with safe elevation equipment and, when needed, with staff trained for work at height, for tall hedges, palms and trees that can’t be reached from the ground.

Do you take away the branches and pruning waste?

Yes, collection and removal of all waste to a licensed handler are included. For large prunings with several trailer-loads we state the removal cost before starting.

My palms have dead fronds, is it urgent?

For looks and safety it’s worth cleaning them, as dead fronds can fall. We also check for red palm weevil symptoms and, if there are any, warn you so the palm can be treated in time.

Do you charge for hedge pruning by the metre?

Yes, the most common way is per linear metre of hedge, with waste removal included. For shrubs, trees and palms we price per unit by size and access. The quote is free.
