The turrón town climbs the hillside. So do its houses, and the pipework shows it.

An old town that climbs

Xixona's old quarter is built on a slope, with streets that are staircases and houses leaning on one another. Drainpipes run down facades and shared courtyards, the drains are decades old, and damp comes in through the wall that backs onto the hill. One house's blockage shows up in the neighbour's below, and a leak can sit two floors above the stain.

Here the first job is to locate properly. A camera down the drainpipes and a listening device on the walls before anything is opened, because in these houses opening up on a hunch gets expensive.

Where the van cannot reach

Some streets in the old quarter will not take a van. Materials go up by hand and rubble comes down the same way, and that has to be counted when pricing a renovation. We say so at the visit, with a closed figure, so there are no surprises on the day. In El Carrascalet, La Sarga and the newer part, with normal access, the work is the usual: air conditioning, boilers, fuse boards and bathrooms.

FAQ

I have a damp patch and cannot tell where it comes from

In the old quarter it can come from the neighbour above, a shared drainpipe or the wall against the hill. We locate it with a camera and a listening device before opening anything.

My street is a staircase. Can you still do building work?

Yes. Materials go up by hand and we count that in the quote from the start.

Do you reach La Sarga and El Carrascalet?

Yes, the whole municipality of Xixona.
