Tibi has a little over one thousand seven hundred residents and a territory dotted with country houses, many of them beyond the reach of the mains. They run on a tank or cistern, a pressure pump and, quite often, a septic tank. When something fails it is not a dripping tap: the pump will not start, the pressure switch has stuck, the tank is leaking, or the septic tank has reached its limit and needs emptying.
These are jobs that barely exist on the coast and are daily bread here. We carry spare pumps and pressure switches in the van, because fetching one means driving down to Alicante or up to Alcoy.
A village with no tradesmen to spare
A municipality this size has no plumber, electrician and builder on call. What we do is bundle: if the house needs two trades, they come on the same day and coordinate between themselves. For houses by the reservoir and in the more distant hamlets a little notice helps, unless it is an emergency.
