Two towns in one: the beach and the hillside
El Campello splits into two realities that have little in common. The Muchavista strip is a run of seventies to two-thousands blocks facing the sea, with the tram in front and an occupancy that jumps in summer. Above it, Coveta Fumá and the hillside urbanisations are detached villas with their own plot, their own pool and, in some cases, services that answer to the urbanisation's community rather than the town hall.
That changes the kind of call entirely. On Muchavista what comes up most is communal faults, shared risers and air conditioning punished by salt. On the hillside it is leaks in buried irrigation or pool pipework, old consumer units in houses that now run a heat pump and an induction hob, and access that will not take a large vehicle.
The front line gets paid for in outdoor units
A split fitted facing Muchavista beach and an identical one two kilometres inland do not age the same way. Sea air deposits salt on the outdoor coil, corrosion sets in, and performance drops summer after summer until the unit gives up at the worst possible moment. With one clean a year the same machine lasts close to twice as long.
The same goes for metal window frames, railings and blind mechanisms. On the front line maintenance is not optional, it is what separates a repair from a full replacement.
